A minimally invasive procedure, hand-assisted
laparoscopic partial nephrectomy involves the removal of part of a diseased
kidney. To perform the procedure, laparoscopic instruments and the surgeon’s
hand are inserted through the abdominal cavity through two small incisions and
one larger incision. This approach is optimized for kidney tumors that range
from three to ten centimeters in diameter.

Conditions
Treated with Hand-Assisted Laparoscopic Partial Nephrectomy:
Hand-assisted laparoscopic partial nephrectomy is
utilized in cases of kidney cancer and kidney tumors.
There are no comparable non-surgical alternatives to
hand-assisted laparoscopic partial nephrectomy. An open partial nephrectomy is
a surgical alternative.
Anesthesia
with Hand-Assisted Laparoscopic Partial Nephrectomy:
Hand-assisted laparoscopic partial nephrectomy is
performed under general anesthesia, which means that the patient is asleep and
completely unaware during the procedure.
Potential
Complications from Hand-Assisted Laparoscopic Partial Nephrectomy:
Possible risks following hand-assisted laparoscopic
partial nephrectomy include infection, bleeding, incisional hernia and a
negative reaction to the anesthesia. It is also possible to experience injury
to other organs.
Recovery
from Hand-Assisted Laparoscopic Partial Nephrectomy:
The total recovery
time from hand-assisted laparoscopic partial nephrectomy takes two to three
weeks.
