Conditions
Treated with a Lumpectomy:
A lumpectomy is performed in cases of breast cancer.
There are no comparable non-surgical alternatives to
a lumpectomy. A mastectomy is a surgical alternative to the procedure.
Anesthesia
with a Lumpectomy:
A lumpectomy may be performed under local or
regional anesthesia.
Potential
Complications from a Lumpectomy:
Possible risks following a lumpectomy include
infection, swelling, bleeding and a negative reaction to the anesthesia that is
used.
Prognosis
after a Lumpectomy:
The prognosis for a positive end result following a
lumpectomy is good. However, the patient may opt for a more invasive
mastectomy.
