In fact, many studies have been conducted over the years to evaluate the claims of this common saying—however, no studies have indicated that eating an apple every day reduces doctor visits compared to patients who do not eat apples.
But don’t throw out the goal of eating an apple every day just yet. The benefits of apples are numerous, including:
- Great source of fiber (which can help prevent cholesterol from building up in your body)
- Great source of potassium (which is good for lowering blood pressure)
- High water content, making for a filling snack without a lot of calories
Apples are also very convenient to eat, because you can slice them up for a quick snack or even throw them in your bag whole to bite into and eat later. They also pair well with a variety of other foods and food groups, like peanut butter, cheese, and salads.
Keep in mind that it is better to eat the whole apple than to just drink apple juice, because juice does not have as much fiber (and many of an apple’s important nutrients are found in the skin).
So even though eating an apple every day will not likely reduce your visits to the doctor, keeping apples handy can be one part of making great eating choices and leading a healthy lifestyle. If you need a snack or are looking to add something fresh to a meal, you can’t go wrong with an apple.
