A bone surgery, Le Fort III osteotomy involves
moving the nose, cheek bones and upper jaw together in order to align with the
chin and forehead. Other bone is used to fill in gaps and is attached to existing
bone with screws.

Conditions

Le Fort III osteotomy may be performed in cases of
facial trauma, Apert’s syndrome, Pfeiffer syndrome and congenital facial
abnormality.

anesthesia, which means that the patient is asleep and completely unaware
during the procedure.
Potential
Complications from Le Fort III Osteotomy:
Possible risks following Le Fort III osteotomy
include infection, bleeding, bruising, soreness, swelling, nerve damage, jaw
relapse and a negative reaction to the anesthesia. A blood transfusion may also
be needed.
