During nerve
repair, lost or damaged nerves are repaired. In some cases, a nerve graft from
a recently deceased donor or from elsewhere on the body is stitched into place.
The nerves may also be stitched back together.
Also Known As:
- Repair of nerve
- Neuroplasty
Conditions Treated with Nerve Repair:
Nerve repair is
performed in cases of nerve injury.
There are no
comparable non-surgical or surgical alternatives to nerve repair.
Potential Complications from Nerve Repair:
Possible risks
following nerve repair include lost sensation and further nerve damage. It is
also possible for a nerve graft to be rejected.
Prognosis after Nerve Repair:
The prognosis for a
positive end result following nerve repair depends on many factors, including
the length of time elapsed between the initial injury and the repair.
