- Surgical removal of the vulva
Conditions
Treated with a Partial Vulvectomy:
A
partial vulvectomy may be performed in cases of genital warts, vulvar cancer
and precancerous tissue.
There
are no comparable non-surgical alternatives to a partial vulvectomy. A simple
vulvectomy may be performed as a surgical alternative.
Anesthesia with a
Partial Vulvectomy:
A
partial vulvectomy may be performed with local anesthesia. It can also be
performed under general anesthesia, which means that the patient is asleep and
completely unaware during the procedure.
Potential
Complications from a Partial Vulvectomy:
Possible
risks following a partial vulvectomy include infection, bleeding and a negative
reaction to the anesthesia that is used.
Prognosis after a
Partial Vulvectomy:
The
prognosis for a positive end result following a partial vulvectomy is good in
terms of removing cancer. However, it can result in vulvar deformity and can
affect sexual desire.
