Laparoscopic gastric bypass surgery involves
stapling the stomach in order to create a small pouch. The small intestine is
rearranged to connect to the pouch, bypassing most of the stomach and part of
the intestine. This procedure is performed with a minimally invasive method
that utilizes a laparoscope (a small video camera) and small instruments
inserted through small incisions.
